Who we are

Spellbound Shelf (“we”, “us”) is a free book tracker and reading community at myspellboundshelf.com. Questions about this policy? Email general@myspellboundshelf.com.

What we collect

Account information: name, email address, and a hashed password if you sign up with email. If you use Google sign-in, we receive your name, email, and Google account identifier from Google — we never see your Google password.

Reading data: books in your collection and wishlist, reading status, page progress, notes, ratings, reading goals, streaks, sessions, and edition or cover choices you save.

Social data (optional): if you turn on feed and clubs, we store posts, comments, reactions, follows, club memberships, and profile banner or avatar images you upload.

Device and technical data: push notification subscription endpoints if you enable notifications; basic server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) for security and debugging.

We do not sell your reading data. We do not run ads or build advertising profiles from your shelf.

How we use your data

We use your information to run the service: save your library, show your reading stats, deliver notifications you asked for, and power social features you enable.

We may use aggregated, non-identifying statistics (for example, total books tracked) to improve the product.

We send transactional email when needed (such as password reset). We do not send marketing spam.

Third-party services

Google Sign-In: subject to Google’s privacy policy when you choose that login method.

Book metadata providers: when you search or scan a barcode, we may query external book databases to fetch titles, covers, and ISBN details. We send search terms or ISBNs — not your full account profile.

Hosting: the app runs on our hosting provider’s infrastructure. Data is stored on servers we control.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser local storage to keep you signed in (access tokens) and remember preferences such as appearance theme. These stay on your device. You can clear them by logging out or clearing site data in your browser.

How long we keep data

We keep your account data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data and content from our systems, except where we must retain minimal records for legal or security reasons.

Your choices

You can update your profile, turn social features off, and manage notification preferences in Settings.

You can mute or block other readers in the feed.

You can delete your account from Profile → Settings. Deletion is permanent — your shelf, posts, and reading log tied to that account will be removed.

Children

Spellbound Shelf is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use HTTPS, access controls, and industry-standard practices to protect your data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we work to reduce risk but cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
